Mills, Robert Henry

Dates: 1880-1915

War Service: Robert Henry Mills served as a sergeant in the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) Depot. His service number was S/2449. He died on 23rd September 1915 at the Royal Herts Hospital of peritonitis and is buried at Brockley Cemetery.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Robert Henry Mills was the son of Robert and Jane Mills, of Deptford born 1880. In the 1891 census he was recorded living with his parents at 10 Addy Street, Deptford. He had four brothers George, John, Walter and Frederick, and a sister, Louisa.

He married Ethel Hannah Smith 12 November 1902 at Christ Church, St Paul, Deptford.

In 1911 he was living at 13 Leonidas Street, Deptford with his wife Ethel and two sons Robert and Walter. Another child had already died. He was employed as a waterside labourer at a general builder’s merchant.

Following Robert's death his widow, Ethel, married Henry Bilby at Christ Church Deptford in 1919 and is recorded living at 38 Alvar Street, Deptford.
