Private ROBERT JOHN MELLISH of 1st battalion Lancashire Fusiliers was killed on 25 April 1915, aged 23. At dawn on 25 April the battalion took part in the landing on ‘W’ Beach near Cape Helles at the Southern tip of the Gallipoli peninsula. Despite heavy casualties in the boats and on the beach they got ashore and took their objectives. For their actions during the landing 6 members of the battalion were awarded the Victoria Cross. The beach is now known as Lancashire Landing.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

He is remembered on the memorial at the church of St. Luke, Evelyn Street, Deptford.
