Second Lieutenant CECIL BEVEN MELLENFIELD of the 7th battalion South Lancashire Regiment died on 23 October 1916, aged 33. He enlisted in the Middlesex Regiment in October 1914 and having been promoted to sergeant he was commissioned from the ranks into the South Lancs on 1 April 1915.

He is buried in Mill Road cemetery, Thiepval.

He is remembered on the war memorial at St Mildred’s church, Lee.

Details:
He was born in Hackney, the third son of James and Marianne Mellenfield, of "Elmstead," 140, Burnt Ash Hill, Lee. He was educated at Surrey House school, Margate and London University. He qualified as a solicitor and his last employment before the war was as managing clerk to Messrs Nisbet, Daw & Nisbet of 35 Lincolns Inn Fields.
