Rifleman 2845 FREDERICK CLEMENT MEARS of 21st battalion London Regiment (First Surrey Rifles) died of his wounds on 16 May 1915, aged 23. He enlisted in September 1914.

He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. The area around Boulogne held a number of hospitals and it is likely that Fred Mears died in one of them.

Location of Memorial:
He was commemorated on the memorial which stood in Monson Road in New Cross.

Details:
He was the son of Jonathan and Agnes Mears, of 20, Barlborough St., New Cross. His brother Arthur, Alfred Mears also serving with the First Surreys, had been killed in action five days earlier.
