Mayo, George Dyer

War Service:
Lieutenant GEORGE DYER MAYO of the Wellington Mounted Rifles of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force was killed in action on 7 August 1915.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Chunuk Bair New Zealand Memorial in Gallipoli. Chunuk Bair is one of four memorials erected to commemorate New Zealand soldiers who died on the Gallipoli peninsula and whose graves are not known.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial at St Augustine’s Church, Grove Park.

Details:
He was 33 years old, the son of Col. William Robert Mayo, D.C.G.O., and his wife Anne. He was born in England but farmed at Peep o’ Day, Feilding, New Zealand.
