Private 38506 THOMAS JOSEPH EDWIN MARTIN of "C" Company, 14th (Service) Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment (The Severn Valley Pioneers) was killed in action on 5 November 1917. At this time the pioneers were engaged in supporting the troops fighting their way through the mud up Passchendaele Ridge – laying cables and duckboard tracks, repairing roads and rail tracks damaged by artillery fire etc.

He is buried in St Julien Dressing Station Cemetery near Ypres.

He is remembered on the war memorial in the church of St George, Catford.

Details:
He was 36 years old, the son of Thomas Coe Martin and Ruth Martin, of Bermondsey. He married Elizabeth Emily Tucker in the spring of 1911.They lived at 30, Neuchatel Rd., Perry Hill, Catford.
