Able Seaman ERNEST WALTER MAJOR died on 13 August 1915 . He joined the Royal Navy in 1898, signing on for 12 years. He bought himself out in April 1905, but re-enlisted in the reserve in 1911. With the rest of the Navy's reservists he was mobilised on 2 August 1914 and joined the cruiser HMS Juno. He died on active service in the Persian Gulf.

He has no grave but the sea and is remembered on the Chatham Naval Memorial.

He is remembered on the Catford Police station memorial.

Details:
He was born in Bethnal Green, the son of George and Ellen Major of London and was the husband of Alice Major. They lived at 64 Laleham Road, Catford. He had served as a constable with the Metropolitian Police based in Lewisham.
