Gunner 693 SIDNEY ROBERT MAHER of 1/4th (London) Howitzer Brigade, Royal Field Artillery died of wounds on 16 October 1917. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. Throughout the war there were numerous military hospitals in the Boulogne area and it seems likely that Sidney Maher died in one of them.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the roll of honour of St Mark’s church, Clarendon Rise The church tower was destroyed in WW2 and the rest of the building demolished in 1980 and the roll is now displayed in St Stephen’s church.

Details:
He was 19 years old, the son of Harry and Amelia Maher, of 79, Pascoe Rd., Lewisham.
