Captain GILLIES MACKIRDY of the 4th battalion Bedfordshire Regiment died on 11 February 1917.

At 9.30pm on the night of 11 February two companies advanced behind an artillery barrage in an attack intended to straighten out a salient in the battalion line. One of the companies was temporarily held up by wire and machine guns but by 3am the objectives had been taken. It was probably in this attack that Captain MacKirdy was killed.

He is buried in Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart.

He is remembered on the memorial at Blackheath Congregational Church.

He was the son of Mrs. I. C. Mackirdy of 1, Ingleside Grove, Blackheath.
