War Service: Patrick MacCarthy enlisted as a Private in the 8th Battalion The Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) on 15th November 1915. His service number was G/11592. He died on 29th June 1916 and is buried at II. E. 3 at Dranoutre Military cemetery.

Location of Memorial: Private MacCarthy is remembered on the war memorial at the church of St Luke's, Deptford.

Details: Prior to his enlistment, Patrick MacCarthy was employed as a porter and lived at 37 Blackhorse Road. His next of kin was named as his brother John who was serving with the 11th Hussar. His medals and personal effects were sent to his widow, Mrs Mary Driscoll of Blackhorse Road. They had six children.
