Lawrence, Charles Samuel

War Service: Charles Samuel Lawrence served in the Royal Navy as a Stoker 1st Class on board the submarine HMS CRESSY. He was killed in action when the HMS CRESSY sunk in the North Sea on the 29th September 1914.

Location of Memorial: Charles Lawrence is remembered on the Chatham Naval Memorial. He is also remembered locally on the war memorials at St Luke's Church, Deptford and at St Paul's Church, Deptford

Details: Charles Samuel Lawrence was the son of Joseph H. and Maria E. Lawrence of 148 Grove Street, Deptford, London. He was born in 1890 and had three brothers; William, Henry and John, and three sisters; Annie, Kezia and Edith.
