Rifleman 300289 DONOVAN HUGH VOSPER KING of 1/5th battalion London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade) was killed in the attack on Gommecourt on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

He is remembered on the memorial in Addey and Stanhope School in Deptford.

He was born in Lee and lived in Lewisham. He was 24 years old, the son of Clara Ellen King, of 50, Castle Boulevard, Nottingham, and the late Fred Arthur King.
