War Service:
Second Lieutenant DAVID TAYLOR KING of 2nd battalion Gordon Highlanders was killed on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
The capture of Mametz by the 7th Division, which included 2nd battalion Gordon Highlanders, was one of the few successes of 1 July but at a heavy cost to the battalion. Six second lieutenants and 93 other ranks lie in Gordon Cemetery which was started by men of the 2/Gordons who buried some of their dead in what had been a support trench.
He is buried in Gordon Cemetery, Mametz.

He was the son of William and Annie King, of Welney Lodge, Ravensbourne Park, Catford.
