War Service:
Private George J KEELEY joined 1st Battalion Royal West Kent Regiment [Service number S/385] in Greenwich. He was killed in action 22 July 1916, during the Battle of the Somme.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, Plot: Pier and Face 11 C. he is remembered locally on St Pauls, Deptford War Memorial.

Details:
George J was born about 1882 in Deptford and was the son of John Thomas a dock worker and Mary Ann Wood [1859 - 1915]. Born In Greenwich, but lived in Deptford by the time he died in 1916. His three brothers [Charles William, Thomas James, William Lester] also died during the First World War and left only a sister Harriet, sister Emily died before 1911]. His Wife "Norah" or Annie Honora BARNACLE, who he married at the RC church of the Assumption 15 October 1904. They had the following children, all born in Greenwich; George John [b 14/1/1905], Annorah ["Norah"] [b 13/5/1906], "Nellie" Ellen Caroline [b 28/8/1910] and William [b 28/3/14]] of 34 Blackhorse Road, Deptford.
