Johnson, Arthur James

War Service: Arthur James Johnson served as a Private with 3rd/4th Battalion The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) and his service number was G/5109. He died on 13th October 1916 at Canterbury aged 38.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Arthur James was born on c1878 to Richard Benjamin and Louisa Johnson. His father died in 1888 aged 37.

In 1901 Arthur was recorded living at 23 Broadway, Deptford with his widowed mother Louisa and his siblings Florence, Ernest, Percy and Walter. He was employed as a shop assistant in his mother's glass and paper hanging business.
