James, Alfred Henry

Dates:

War Service:
Private G/24588 ALFRED HENRY JAMES of 1st battalion Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) died of wounds on 9 April 1917.

April 9, Easter Monday, the first day of the Battle of Arras, was a successful day for 1/RWK. Despite freezing conditions and heavy snowfall the battalion took all its objectives for the loss of only 1 officer and 13 other ranks killed. Sadly Alfred James appears to have been one of those killed.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial

Location of Memorial:
He is also remembered on the Sydenham South Suburban Gas Works war memorial.
