Private 42188 CHARLES STEPHEN HUMMERSTONE of 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion, Royal Irish Fusiliers was killed in action on 4 September 1918. He enlisted with the Army Service Corps on 10 November 1915.

He is buried in Messines Ridge British Cemetery.

He is also remembered on the war memorial of the Sydenham, Forest Hill & District Tradesmen’s Benefit Society.

Details:
He was born in West Norwood. He was the wife of Florence Elizabeth Hummerstone. They lived at 7 Newlands Road, Norbury. In civilian life he was a bookstall manager.
