Private John Sidney HOUGHTON Service No:8465 of the 11th Bn. Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). He was killed in action 07 October 1916 aged 26.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL Pier and Face 11 C to those missing during the Battle of the Somme with no known grave. So far no local memorial has been found naming him. The 11th Royal West Kent Memorial in Lewisham has no names.

Details:
He was born in 1889 in the Mile End, Old Town and was the son of John and Eliza Houghton, of 38, Princes Street, Deptford, London. And husband of Eliza M Woodward (formerly Houghton)(Nee Whitfield), of 96, Brookdale Road, Catford, with whom he had 2 children Ethel M (Born 1913) and John S (Born 1915), both in Lewisham Registration District. In 1911 he was single and a bricklayers labourer, he married Eliza in 1912. He attended Brockley Road Scool until March 1899, when on the 13th he transfered to Hither Green School, where he remained until 1905. He joined the same month as Robert Highgate
