War Service:
Sapper 22518 WILLIAM JAMES HOOTON of 5 Field Company, Royal Engineers was killed in action on 6 November 1914, aged 24.

He is buried in Hooge Crater Cemetery.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered in the Book of Remembrance at St Saviour’s church Forest Hill.

Details:
He was born in Peckham. He joined the Royal Engineers in February 1912, having previously worked as a carpenter and joiner. He went to France on 7 October 1914. He was the son of William and Mary Hooton of 16, Como Rd., Forest Hill.
