OSWALD HITCHEN was killed on the night of 19 March 1941 in an air raid on the Royal Victoria Victualling Yard in Deptford.

He is remembered on the war memorial near the gates of the former Royal Victoria Victualling Yard, Deptford.

Details:
He was employed by the Admiralty as a Technical Assistant Training Officer. He was 34, the son of Elias and Betsy Hitchen of 1 Sandbed Villas, Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. He was posthumously awarded the King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct for his work that night. The award was announced in the London Gazette of 27 May 1941.
