Sapper 182818 VICTOR GORDON HILL of 12 Divisional Signal Company Royal Engineers died on 14 May 1918, aged 21. The posthumous award of the Military Medal ( “for bravery in the field”) was announced in the London Gazette of 16 July 1918.
He is buried in Mailly Wood cemetery, Mailly-Maillet.

Details:
He was born early in 1897 in New Cross, the son of Arthur William Hill, of Stafford House, 42, St. John's Rd., Sevenoaks, and the late Rebecca Mary Anne Hill. He was a member of the 1st New Cross (The Greys) Scout Troop and from his age must have been one of the earliest members of one of the first Troops in the country.
