Flight Sergeant JAMES GEORGE HEBDON Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve of 97 Squadron was killed in action on 18 December 1942. At 1708 on 17 December Avro Lancaster ‘OF-Z’ took off from RAF Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire to bomb Neustadt. It was lost without trace, one of two 97 Squadron aircraft lost on this operation.

The crew including Flight Sergeant Hebdon are commemorated on the Air Forces Memorial at Runnymede.
