Second Lieutenant JOSEPH ARNOLD HAWKRIDGE of the 9th battalion Royal Sussex Regiment died of wounds on 6 November 1916, aged 21. He had been transferred from the 15th battalion Royal Fusiliers on 16 November 1915.
He is buried in Barlin Communal Cemetery Extension, near Bethune.
Location of Memorial:
His name is remembered on the war memorial at St Dunstan’s College and in the pages of the History of The Old Dunstonian Rugby Football Club.
Details:
He was 20 years old and born in Sydenham, the son of Joseph and Mary Louisa Hawkridge of Venner Road, Sydenham. . He was educated at St Dunstan’s College in Catford and was at Guy's Hospital when war broke out.
