Air Mechanic (E) 1st Class JOSEPH WALTER HARRIS was killed in an air crash on 14 April 1942 while serving at HMS Jackdaw. This was the name given to the airfield at Crail in Fife which was used by a number of squadrons for torpedo training.

The aircraft in which Joseph Harris was killed was piloted by temporary sub lieutenant John Thorpe of 770 Squadron who also died in the crash.

He is buried in Camberwell New Cemetery.

He is remembered in the book of remembrance in Addey and Stanhope school in Deptford.

Details:
He was 19 years old, the son of Emily Harris of New Cross.
