War Service:
Private 17627 EDWARD HARDS of 2nd battalion the Border Regiment was killed in action on 16 May 1915. He had previously served as a regular with the Border Regiment from 1894 to 1906. He re-enlisted at Deptford on 14 November 1914 at the age of 38 and gave his occupation as lamplighter. He went to France on 21 April 1915.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.

He is also remembered on the Sydenham South Suburban Gas Works war memorial.

Details:
He was the husband of Harriet Hards of 38 Elderton Road, Sydenham. They married at St Michael’s Sydenham on 11 June 1905.
