War Service: John Alfred Hamilton served as a Private with the 7th Battalion Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) and his service number was G/2031. He enlisted on the 7th September 1914. He died whilst on active service on 3rd May 1917

Location of Memorial: He is commemorated on Bay 7 at the Arras Memorial and he is remembered locally on the war memorial at the church of St Luke, Deptford.

Details: John Alfred Hamilton was born in 1894 in Deptford. His parents were John and Emma Hamilton and they lived at 30 Blackhorse Road, Deptford. He had three brothers William, Victor and James, and two sisters Grace and Mabel. Before enlisting he was employed as a general labourer. His brother, William Henry Hamilton, is also remembered on the war memorial St Luke's Church.
