Dates: 1886 - 1 October 1916

War Service: L/Cpl REGINALD GROVES (4880) 1/20 (County of London) Battalion, The London Regiment (Blackheath and Woolwich) T.F. Killed in action Sunday, 1 October 1916 (The Battle of the Somme). 102 soldiers (excluding officers ) of the 1/20 were killed on the 1 October and probably twice that number were wounded in the attack on Eaucourt L'Abbaye.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme Ref. Pier and Face 13C.

Location of Memorial: He is remembered on the memorial of the Church of the Ascencion Blackheath He remembered on the 20th London Regiment Roll of Honour.

Details:
He was the son of Mr. J Groves of 44 Mount St. Charlton (and formerly of 25 Lethbridge Rd). He was born and enlisted in Woolwich. In 1911 aged 15 he was a shop assistant in a picture framing shop. His younger brother Pte Ernest Cyril Groves was also killed in action.
