War Service: Pte. ERNEST CYRIL GROVES (1223 and 630169) 2/20 County of London Battalion, the London Regiment (Blackheath and Woolwich) T.F. Killed in Action on Sunday 9 December 1917. His battalion was in the 60 London Division of the Egyptian Expeditionary Force serving in Palestine under the command of General Allenby.
He is buried and remembered at the Jerusalem War Cementery, in plot R22. The Jerusalem War Cementery is 4.5km north of the walled city at the north end of the Mount of Olives.

He is remembered on the memorial at the Church of the Ascencion Blackheath also on the 20th London Regiment Roll of Honour.
Details: He was the son of Mr. J Groves of 44 Mount St. Charlton (and formerly of 25 Lethbridge Rd). His elder brother Reginal Groves was also killed in action.
