Second Lieutenant KEBLE GROUNDS of 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters was killed in action on 15 September 1916, aged 21. On 15 September 2/Sherwood Foresters were in support of 1st battalion Leicestershire Regiment in an attack on the German position near Ginchy known as the Quadrilateral Redoubt. 2/Lt Grounds was killed as the battalion were moving forward to their start line.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme

He is remembered on the memorial at St Margaret’s church, Lee.

He was the son of Frederick and Bessie Grounds of 338, Lee High Road
