Gispert, Modesto


War Service:
Able Seaman MODESTO GISPERT died on 11 November 1917, aged 24. At the time of his death he was serving on the monitor HMS M15 which was torpedoed while taking part in the bombardment of Gaza. The torpedo set fire to a cordite store and she sank in 3 minutes.

He was lost at sea and is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial at the church of St Mary Magdalen, Brockley.

He was the son of Arthur and Remedio Gispert of 80, Breakspears Road, Brockley.
