Geddes, Ernest James

Dates: 1893-1915

War Service: Ernest James Geddes served as a Private with the 3/5th London Field Ambulance Royal Army Medical Corps and his service number was 2259. He died 21st December 1915 at Denmark Hill, Surrey aged 22.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Ernest James was the son of Florence Louisa and Thomas Samuel Geddes. He was baptised on 3rd June 1898 at St. Lukes Church, Peckham alongside his siblings Charles John and Florence Louisa Kate.

In 1901 he was recorded living at 113 Douglas Street, Deptford with his parents, his two brothers William and Charles and his sister Florence.

In 1911 he is living at 1 Medusa Road, Catford with his widowed mother, Florence, and his siblings. He is employed as a boy clerk with the civil service. His father Thomas died in 1906 aged 36. His mother later remarried, becoming Florence Forcey, and moved to 53 Peckham Road, Camberwell. In his will, Ernest left £129 8s 2d to his mother.
