Stoker 2nd Class HERBERT GEORGE FISHER died on 25 November 1941 when the battleship HMS Barham was torpedoed in the Eastern Mediterranean. She was hit by three torpedoes. As she rolled over to port her after magazines exploded and she quickly sank with the loss of over two-thirds of her crew of 1200.
He was lost at sea and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial

He was the son of Herbert and Ann Fisher and husband of Doris Fisher, of Lower Sydenham.
