Second Lieutenant ERIC MONTAGUE FAIRCLOUGH of 10th (Service) battalion (Battersea) The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) died on 25 February 1917 of wounds sustained in a raid on the enemy trenches. Before obtaining his commission he had served as a corporal in the 11th battalion Royal West Kent Regiment.

He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery near Poperinge in Belgium.

He is remembered on the war memorial in the church of St. George Catford

Details:
He was 20 years old, the son of Edwin and Lilly Fairclough, of 17, Exbury Rd., Catford Hill. He was educated at St Dunstan’s College, Catford.
