Bombardier 915076 JOHN HENRY EVANS of 155 (The Lanarkshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment Royal Artillery died on 7 October 1943 while a prisoner of the Japanese.

He is buried in Kanchanaburi War Cemetery in Thailand. In the cemetery lie the remains of almost 7,000 prisoners of war and civilians who died while constructing the Southern section of the notorious Burma - Siam railway.

He is remembered in the Book of Remembrance at Addey and Stanhope School, Deptford.

He was 23 years old, the son of Henry and Dorothy Evans of Blackheath.
