War Service:
Private L/9894 GEORGE ETHERINGTON of the 4th battalion Royal Fusiliers was killed on 11 November 1914, aged 28. The battalion had landed at Le Havre on 13 August and on 23rd had taken part in the defence of the Mons-Condé Canal during which Lieutenant Dease and Private Godley won the Victoria Cross.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate at Ypres.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the war memorial in the church of St Luke, Deptford.

Details:
He was the son of Mrs. Ellen Etherington, of 51, Claremont St., Greenwich. His brother Henry was killed on 29 October 1914 while serving with 2nd battalion The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment).
