Company Serjeant Major 9656 FRANCIS GEORGE DUMBLETON DCM of 11th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers died on 9 August 1916.

The citation for his Distinguished Conduct Medal appeared in the London Gazette of 22 September 1916.
It reads : "For conspicuous gallantry during an attack, when, under exceptionally heavy fire, he collected and controlled a disorganized party of men, left without an officer, and, attaching himself to another battalion, took part in the attack and in the subsequent capture of prisoners. "

He is buried and remembered in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt L’Abbe.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the war memorials at St Andrews church in Catford.

Details:
He was the husband of of Alice Louisa Dumbleton, of 8, Hazelbank Road, Catford. They married in the spring of 1912.
