Donavon, Walter

War Service: Walter Donavon served as a Private with the 2nd/20th Battalion London Regiment and his service number was 4627. He died on 11th March 1917, aged 29.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Walter Donavon was born c. 1888 in Millwall to Charles and Sarah Donavon.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 59 Clarence Road, Canning Town with his mother Sarah and sister Annie and he was an unemployed carpenter.

He enlisted in the military on 17th November 1915 and gave his home address as 13 Alpha Road, New Cross. At the time of his enlistment he was described as 5 ft 2 ½ inches tall with good physical development. He was discharged on 25th July 1916.
