War Service: Charles David Dawson served as a Private with the 6th Battalion Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment) and his service number was G/140. He died on 3rd July 1916, aged 29. He is commemorated on the Thievpal memorial.

Location of Memorial: He is remembered on the St Pauls, Deptford WW1 War Memorial.

Details: Charles David Dawson was born on 23rd December 1887 to Robert and Jane Dawson of Adolphus Street. He was baptised on 27th April 1892 at Deptford. He had three brothers, Robert, John and Harold, and a sister, Jennie.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 29, Adolphus Street, Deptford with his widowed mother Jane Ann, his brother, Harold Thomas, and his sister, Jennie Rosina. He was employed as a lighter man apprentice. His father had died in 1905 aged 46.
