Curtis, Owen Stanley Chipchase

Dates: 1894-1920

War Service: Owen Stanley Chipchase Curtis served with the Royal Navy as a Leading Telegraphist on HMS Victory and his service number was J/8621. He died on 4th June 1920, aged 26, and is buried at Brockley Cemetery.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Owen Curtis was the son of George William and Margaret March Curtis. He born on 11th July 1894 and baptised on 5th September 1894 at St Luke's, Deptford. At the time the family were living at 120 Gosterwood Street, Deptford.

At the time of the 1911 census Owen was serving on HMS Impregnable at Devonport where he served as a Boy Telegraphist. At this time his parents were living at 59 Evelyn Street, Deptford with their children Dorothy, Raymond, May, Margaret, Douglas and Reginald. They had another daughter, Grace, who had passed away between 1901 and 1911.
