Corporal 7017325 ARTHUR EDWARD CREED of 1st battalion The London Irish Rifles, died on 21 January 1944, aged 28.

The London Irish Rifles were part of the 56th (London) Division. During the winter of 1943 the Allies tried unsuccessfully to breach the German defensive positions known as the Gustav Line which stretched eastwards across Italy from the River Garigliano. It was not until 17 January 1944 that the Garigliano was crossed and Minturno taken two days later.

Location of Memorial:
He is buried in Minturno War Cemetery, 50 miles North of Naples and remembered on the Sydenham South Suburban Gas Works war memorial

Details:
He was the son of Florence Creed and husband of Nellie May Creed. They married in Lewisham in the autumn of 1936.
