Sergeant 11012 WILLIAM THOMAS COVILL of the 1st Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers died on 25 April 1915, the first day of the Allied landing on Gallipoli. He was 38. The 1st Battalion were the first unit to land on V beach and suffered heavy casualties from Turkish machine gun fire, many men never reaching the beach.

He is remembered on Special Memorial A29 in V Beach Cemetery, Gallipoli.

He is remembered on the memorial at St Stephen’s church Lewisham High Street.

He was the son of William Thomas and Emily Covill, of Acorn House, Shrubbery Road, Lewisham.
