Lance Corporal 270936 WILFRED JAMES COOK of the 10th (Royal East Kent and West Kent Yeomanry) Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) died on 13 August 1918, aged 26.

He is buried in Aire Communal Cemetery near St Omer.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the memorial at St Bartholomew’s church, Sydenham.

Details:
He was the son of Rose Ellen and the late James William Cook, of the British School at Northfleet, a non-Conformist school formerly located in the High Street. He was educated at the Passmore Edwards Teachers' Orphanage for Boys, West Hill, Sydenham between 1901 and 1907. This was set up by the The Benevolent and Orphan Fund of the National Union of Teachers.
