Second Lieutenant JOHN LAURENCE COLLIER died on 23 October 1943, aged 26. He was serving with the 4th Battalion the Royal East Kent Regiment (The Buffs).

On 23rd October 1943, the Battalion boarded two destroyers at Alexandria and sailed for the Greek island of Leros. At about midnight, HMS Eclipse hit a mine and sank within five minutes with the loss of 134 soldiers and 119 crew.

He was lost at sea and is remembered on the Athens Memorial.

He is also remembered on memorial at Holy Trinity church, Sydenham.

He was the son of Clarence E. Collier and Margaret Collier, of Folkestone.
