Cole, William Alfred

Dates: c1889-1917

War Service: William Alfred Cole served as a sergeant in 2nd Battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and his service number was L/8533. He died on 18th May 1917, aged 28, and is buried at Struma Military Cemetery.

Location of Memorial: He is remembered on the St Pauls, Deptford WW1 War Memorial.

Details: Born in Battersea, c1889, William Alfred Cole was the son of William Arthur and Ann Elizabeth Cole.
He enlisted in the army on 1st October 1906 and at this time he was described as being 5ft 2 ½ inches tall and weighing 106lbs with hazel eyes, brown hair and a fresh complexion.

On the 1911 census he is recorded at Tanglin Barracks, Singapore.

His brother Herbert Cole is also commemorated at St Paul's Deptford.
