War Service: Herbert Cole served as a Private with 1st Battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) and his service number was 9822. He died on 21st September 1914, aged 21, and is buried at Vailley British Cemetery.

Location of Memorial: He is remembered on the St Pauls, Deptford WW1 War Memorial.

Details: Herbert Cole was the son of William Arthur and Ann Elizabeth Cole. He was born in Battersea c1893.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 5 Crossfield Street Deptford, with his parents and his siblings Edward and Dorothy. He was employed as an errand boy.

His brother William Alfred Cole is also commemorated at St. Pauls Deptford.
