Cole, Francis Arthur

Dates: 1878-1918

War Service: Francis Arthur Cole served as a Rifleman with the 11th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps and his service number was R/39675. He died of wounds on 2nd April 1918 at the General Hospital Bristol, aged 40.

Location of Memorial: He is buried in Brockley cemetery, where his name is recorded on the screen wall listing those whose graves have no headstone.

Details: Francis Arthur Cole was born in Deptford to George and Eliza Cole.

He married Florence Tamer Saint on 11th July 1909 at St Marks Church, Deptford. He was living at 9 Arklow Road and was employed as a labourer. His father George, an engineer, had already died.

In 1911 he was recorded living at 4 Amersham Grove, New Cross with his wife Florence and daughter Florence Gertrude aged 10 months. He was employed as a scaffolder. He later had another daughter, Grace Elizabeth, born 1913.
