Sergeant (Navigator) BRODIE JOHN CLINGING Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve died on 17 April 1943 while serving with 76 Squadron. Halifax MP-Y took off from RAF Linton-on-Ouse at 2049 on 16 April to bomb Pilsen in Czechoslovakia. The aircraft crashed near Laon in France killing all on board, including another Lewisham resident Sergeant Pilot Bryan Wedderburn.

All the crew are buried in Liesse Communal Cemetery.

Location of Memorial:
His name is listed among the dead of the two World Wars in a volume setting out the history of the Old Dunstonians Rugby Football Club he may also be listed on the St Dunstan’s College WW2 Memorial.

Details:
He was born in the spring of 1920 in Suffolk and educated at St Dunstan's College, Catford.
