Private 29402 HENRY ANDREW CHANDLER of 123 Company, Machine Gun Corps was killed in action on 29 September 1916.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.

He is remembered on the in Addey and Stanhope School in Deptford.

He was born in Deptford.

He was the son of the Rev. W. W. Chandler and Mrs. Chandler, of Cavenham Vicarage, Mildenhall, Suffolk. There is a plaque in his memory on the wall of St Andrew’s church in Cavenham - “Sacred to the memory of Henry Andrew Chandler Machine Gun Corps who was killed in action at Flers on St Michael’s Day 1916 and buried in the trenches. Aged 23 years.“ His name also appears with those of 9 other Cavenham men on the war memorial window in the church.
