Lieutenant MICHAEL JAMES WARRENDER CASSY, Grenadier Guards died on 2 October 1944, aged 23. At this time the 24th Guards Brigade was under command of the 6th South African Armoured Division.

He is buried in Castiglione South African Cemetery, near Bologna, Italy.

Location of Memorial:
He is remembered on the war memorial at St Dunstan’s College in Catford and on the memorial at St Bartholomew’s church, Sydenham.

Details:
He was the son of Douglas Warrender Cassy and Gwendolyn Minnie Cassy of Sydenham. He was educated at St Dunstan’s College, leaving in 1940 as head of school. A cup for sporting achievement was later endowed by his family in his memory.
