Lieutenant W.D. Butler served in the 36 company, 11th Imperial Yeomanry during the South African War.

Location of Memorial:
He is commemorated on the Blackheath Proprietary School South African War Memorial

Details:
After the Boer war he immigrated to Canada where he lived out the remainder of his life. He had 5 children. His 3rd child was James Charles Butler who was killed in action in WWII in Italy.
William Douglas Butler is in the middle row, second from the right.
